Job's seven trials James 5.11

James 5.11: Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord: for the LORD is merciful and gracious;

With these words in the Epistle of James, our attention is turned to Job. He endured his sufferings with unusual patience. By this he became an example to all the redeemed, who, like him, will go through trials.

The book of Job tells of seven different trials that Job had to endure:

  1. The loss of oxen and donkeys and almost all the servants who were with them (Job 1:14, 15)
  2. The loss of small animals and almost all the servants who guarded them (Job 1:16)
  3. The loss of camels and almost all those who fed them (Job 1:17)
  4. The loss of all ten children (Job 1:18, 19)
  5. Job's serious illness (Job 2: 7,8)
  6. The call of the wife to renounce God (Job 2: 9, 10)
  7. The silence of Job's three friends and their wrong thoughts about Job (Job 2:11, 13).

These seven trials are divided into two groups: the first four came upon Job, after Satan first appeared before God. The second group struck Job after Satan stepped a second time before God against Job.

Job's reactions to the evidence were not all the same: After the first four "blows of fate," Job worshiped God, did not sin, and did not reproach God. Also, the fourth and fifth attempts endured them admirably. The divinely inspired account, however, no longer says here, unlike Job 1:22, that Job would no longer have committed any sin. It is simply said that this man tried hard, in all this he did not sin with his lips (Job 2:10).

If the Epistle of James says, "You have heard of the patience of Job," we must think especially of the patience of Job in connection with the first six trials. In the seventh attempt Job did not really endure. While the sufferings of Job in the first six trials were sufferings for the honor of God, in the case of the seventh trial they are sufferings for the education of this great man of God.

It is amazing: the first six trials brought great calamity upon Job — and yet Job remained victorious. The last attempt was certainly very unpleasant, but it was certainly something that had to be endured with a "wider back". But here Job misses! He cursed his birth and began to make heavy and great reproaches to God.

What does it mean when old friends keep quiet and think? Job was sensitive enough to feel that his friends were questioning his life and behavior, and they were thinking if they were wrong about him. "How can Job be a faithful believer if he suffers so hard now?" They thought of their former friend. Their later discussions in a hostile, loveless tone finally gave justice to his sentiment.

As incomprehensible as it may sound, this last test was the hardest test for Job, for it struck him where we are all particularly sensitive: in what you think of yourself as a believer. God allowed this trial to reveal something from Job's heart: his pride in his faithfulness, justice, and devotion to God.

As the exhortations of Job's three "wise" friends led him more and more in the wrong direction, Elihu's balanced words and the word of God led him from the storm to the goal: In Job 42: 1-6 we are shown as Job acknowledges and confesses that his spiritual pride is a sin.

What Eliphaz said for false reasons eventually came true: "Out of six troubles He will deliver you, and in seven no evil will touch you" (Job 5:19). The Lord brought Job out of trouble and blessed him far more than before. Each trial is limited in time, and in the end the Lord prepares a new blessing. This is what we need to think about when you say in the Epistle of James, "Ye have seen the end of the Lord (that is, the good end, which he hath given); for the Lord is merciful and gracious."

Russian salad on vinegrette or tartar sauce - Recipes

Time: 40min

Ingredient: 4 eggplants, 1 egg, two green onions or a dried onion, 7 tablespoons oil, salt, pepper, a teaspoon of mustard, lemon juice

Method of preparation:

Bake the eggplant on the eye from the stove or in the oven until they become soft and the skin is burnt. Allow to cool slightly and start peeling. Cut in half from the back down and with the help of a spoon separate the core of the shell for each of the two halves.

The preparation method is not complicated at all. The only secret is the long syrup without which the cake would not get the same fine and fluffy texture. So prepare it in the evening and serve only the next day. You will be delighted with the result and the wait will be well worth it.

Time: 30min + 6-12h in the fridge

ingredients: 4 teaspoons with a pinch of coffee (or ness), a bottle with rum essence, 400g Savoyardi champagne biscuits, 4 eggs, 7 tablespoons with a pinch of sugar, 500g (2 cans) Mascarpone super cream or 500g cream 25% fat, 2 sachets whipped cream powder (optional, we only use them if we use cream), cocoa for garnish

Method of preparation :

First and foremost we make a strong coffee from 500ml of water and the 4 teaspoons of coffee and let it cool.

Then rub the yolks with the sugar until the sugar is almost melted (about 10-15 minutes with the mixer) and obtain a thick cream.

Add the Mascarpone cream or cream and mix with the mixer until it becomes as thick as cream. We can do these operations manually with a target but it's much more tiring: P

If you use cream the mixture will not be so consistent, do not be afraid :) continue the recipe and you will see how good it will turn out in the end)

Refrigerate until we take care of the rest of the ingredients.

Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt.

If we used cream as an ingredient, we will add the whipped cream powder to the beaten egg white (without dissolving it in the milk) and we will continue beating it until it is incorporated in the foam. This will make the cream thicker.

If I used Mascarpone you don't need whipped cream, it will come out strong enough and without.

At the end, mix the two compositions (the one with the egg whites and the one with the yolks) and put the mixture in the fridge for 15-20 minutes or in the freezer for a shorter time to harden the cream.

Meanwhile, we prepare the tray in which we will place the cake. We use a tray 4-5 cm high, which can hold about half the amount of biscuits placed next to each other. I used the rectangular steak tray.

We add the rum essence in the chilled coffee and when we take the cream out of the fridge we start to assemble the cake. We quickly soak the biscuits in the coffee, one by one.

Hold the biscuit in the coffee for a second, otherwise it will soften too much. Place a layer of biscuits in the pan.

Spread half of the prepared cream, powder with cocoa and then place another layer of biscuits and the rest of the cream on top.

At the end, sprinkle cocoa on top, using a tea strainer and refrigerate.

Serve at least 6 hours after cooking to syrup the biscuits well.

Tricks from personal experience:

- You can replace a cup of coffee with a cup of coffee liqueur or amareto liqueur, it gives it a special taste.

- Ideal to serve would be the day after cooking, the biscuits become juicy and all the flavors combine in a unique way.

- To my taste, it looked better when I used cream than mascarpone.

- If you want to get a strong cream that can be cut with a knife, you can add 2 sheets of gelatin soaked in cold water and then dissolved in a little hot water.

Cozonac with walnuts and cocoa

Servings: 2 cozonacs


dough: 1 kg 000 type flour, 40g fresh yeast (a small cube), 4 eggs + 2 egg yolks, 250-300g sugar, 1 glass of butter or melted margarine (

200g), 400ml milk, 1 teaspoon rum essence, 1 teaspoon grated salt, 1 sachet vanilla sugar, lemon and / or orange peel

Filling: 300g nuts, 150g sugar, 150g cocoa, raisins (optional), 2 tablespoons soft butter or margarine, 1 egg white

Grease on top: 1 egg white, 2 tablespoons milk, whole walnut kernels or coarse sugar

Method of preparation:
Crush the yeast with a fork in a glass of milk, then beat with two tablespoons of sugar and one tablespoon of flour and leave to rise in a warm place. If the yeast is fresh, it grows very quickly.
After the yeast has risen, kneading begins.

Careful! All ingredients must be at room temperature, otherwise the cake will not rise properly.

Make a hole in the flour placed in the bowl in which we will knead and in this hole pour the 4 eggs, egg yolks, sugar, salt, rum, vanilla, lemon / orange peel and yeast prepared before, all hot, and mix with a fork.
Then slowly pour in the warm milk and start kneading by hand.

For the success of the cakes, the coca must be neither too soft nor too hard. It fits so that when you stretch it between your hands it does not break.
Knead without breaking the shell, folding the edges in half. Once the composition has become homogeneous, start adding the fat (lukewarm), little by little, until all the amount is finished.
From the moment we start adding the melted butter, knead for at least half an hour. If more fat is needed during kneading, add one tablespoon of oil at a time.

After the kneading is complete, place the hot covered pot next to a heat source or on a steam pot. Check from time to time so as not to overheat the pot underneath.
If the dough is successful, the crust rises and doubles in volume in four hours.

For the filling, pass the nuts through the nut grinder, mix with the sugar, cocoa, egg whites, butter and whoever wants with raisins. The cream must be thick so that it does not run.

From these quantities you can make 2 cakes, at most 3. Divide the dough into 2 or 3 and spread the crust on the plate on a bed of flour so that it does not stick. Spread the cream on top, roll and put in molds, greased and lined with flour.

Leave it to rise slightly, then grease the cozonacs with beaten egg whites with 2 tablespoons of milk and sprinkle with coarse sugar or garnish with walnut kernels.
Bake at the right heat for about 40 minutes.

When they are taken out of the oven, they are turned over on a plate and cut only after they have cooled.

Tricks from personal experience:

- You can also use dry yeast, for 1 kg of flour we use two sachets of powdered yeast.

- In the absence of cake trays, use a saucepan (or two) with the walls as straight as possible to easily remove the cake after baking.

- To test whether the cozonacs are well cooked, insert a toothpick in the middle of the cozonac as deep as possible and lift it slightly. If the toothpick is clean and dry then the cake is baked. If there are traces of wet crust on the toothpick, then it means that it is raw in the middle and still needs to be baked.

Stuffed cabbage

Ingredient: 1.5 kg sour cabbage, 700 g pork, 200 g smoked meat, 50-100 g rice, 100 g onion, pepper or allspice, 100 ml tomato juice, a bay leaf, thyme, dill.

Method of preparation:
Pork or mixed with beef and pork neck are passed through the mincer, along with onions cooked for 2 minutes with 2 tablespoons of oil.
To the mince, add the washed and drained rice and a knife tip with pepper or a teaspoon tip with allspice, which is not too hot and gives the cabbage a very good taste. Salt to taste.
If the meat is fatty, add 150 ml of water per 100 g of rice, and if it is lean meat, 200 ml of water per 100 g of rice are beaten well until incorporated into the mince, so that it is fluffy and the rice has liquid in which to boil, before the meat coagulates around it otherwise, the meat will no longer allow water from outside to enter the rice, so that it increases its volume when boiled and softens.
Place a sheet of cabbage in the palm outstretched or on the table, put a teaspoon of chopped, placed like a roll on the width of the leaf, so that at one end and the other of the chopped leaves 2 cm of free leaf. Turn a narrow end of the leaf over the roll and bring a long end of it over the meat, rolling together to the other end of the leaf and then inserting the hand that was left free. Wrapped in this way, the sarmales do not open when boiled.
When all the sarmales are ready, the remaining leaves are cut next to the middle rib, several are superimposed and rolled, then cut thin, like noodles.
For boiling the sarmales, prepare a 4-5 l pot, so that they do not catch fire when boiling.
Half of the chopped cabbage is placed on the bottom of the pot, and the other half on top of the cabbage rolls. Among the sarmale there is smoked meat (smoked ciolan, ribs.) Which is served with sarmale, giving them a very pleasant taste.
Also for aroma and taste, put 1-2 bay leaves and about 10 peppercorns, thyme and finely chopped dill, and for the color, 100 ml of tomato juice, which will pleasantly color the fat that will rise above the cabbage. Pour enough boiling water to cover them, cover and let it boil over medium heat until it boils, then reduce the heat until the rice boils for about 1 - 5 - 2h, the water decreasing by half.
Then put it in the oven, on the right heat, until the water decreases and brown the sarmales for about another 30-60 minutes. If the sarmales have not boiled, add hot water.
Serve hot seasoned with sour cream, horseradish or hot peppers and steaming polenta.

- Pay attention to how much salt you put in the composition. It must be dosed depending on how salty the cabbage is.

- Cabbage that is too sour or too salty is washed in 2-3 warm waters, both whole and chopped leaves.

- For sarmale, only thin cabbage is good.

- Small sarmales are made only from the tip of very thin leaves, without thick ribs.

- In order for the rice to boil faster, the composition can be made in the evening for the next day and stored in the refrigerator.

Peel an apple, grate it and finely chop it.

Drain the peas and pass through a stream of cold water.

-250gr of fresh cow's cheese
-200gr telemea breed (sheep and cows)
-4 tablespoons sugar

-200 ml of water
-200 ml of whipped milk
-3 tablespoons butter or margarine together
-6 tablespoons sugar
-an egg
-A little salt
-a cube of yeast (25 gr)
-flour enough to make a bread-like dough

We make a dough from the above ingredients, which we raise.
When it has doubled in volume, we divide it in two and make a not too thin sheet, which we cut into strips in both directions.

We pass the resulting squares through butter or melted margarine and sugar and put them in a guguluf shape greased with butter.
Over them we put half of the cream cheese.
We also make the second sheet and we also cut the squares, only that we alternate them with the remaining cheese (we put a few squares, a little cheese until we finish). Let it grow and then grease with beaten egg and put in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes. When we think it is ready, we do the test with the toothpick, if it comes out clean it is ready.

It is a delight eaten hot! Lemon cream makes all the money! It gives it a special flavor!
