Photos of all things food and drink from The Daily Meal
Arthur Bovino
All the hot dogs offered at America's Dog are named after the cities they were inspired by.
The Daily Meal's editors, contributors, and readers dig into some pretty great restaurants, festivals, and meals. There's not always enough time to give a full review of a restaurant or describe in depth why a place, its food, and the people who prepare it are noteworthy, so Snackshot of the Day does what photographs do best, rely on the image to do most of the talking.
Today's Snackshot is of the Chicago Dog at America's Dog in Chicago. It ranks at number 23 on our list of Chicago's best hot dogs, and executive editor Arthur Bovino describes the dog as having "ample mustard, longer than normal chopped onion, and plump sport peppers, and a sparser than usual relish topping [that] bring[s] all the right intentions, but not a perfect ensemble."

Perfect Corn Dogs
No one can deny the crispy, slightly sweet, perfectly fried lure of a corn dog. Luckily, corndogs are actually super easy to make at home. The batter fries up quickly and super crispy&mdashjust like any good corn dog should be! These will transport you back to being a kid at the local fair.
Let your batter sit.
Corn dog batter greatly benefits from sitting for a few minutes before coating the hot dogs. It will thicken as it sits, which will help coat the hot dog as thoroughly as possible. For best results, make the batter first, then allow it to sit while you heat your oil. Dipping the hot dog into the batter right before frying works best!
Prepare your hot dogs.
This step is crucial. Make sure your hot dogs are COMPLETELY dried off before dipping in the batter. All they need is a simple wipe down with a paper towel. If you feel your batter still isn't sticking properly, you can roll hot dogs in a little cornstarch.
Keep your oil hot.
As with most frying projects, oil temperature is key, so be sure to use a thermometer. The ideal frying temp for corn dogs is 375°. Make sure you give your oil time to come back to 375° between each batch, and lower the heat a little if the oil starts to get too hot.
As long as you have your oil ready, you might as well add some more fried, deliciousness to your meal. Pair these corn dogs with our favorite french fries and top it all off with decadent deep-fried oreos. Your tummy will thank you.

An Alternative To Home Cooking
“Cooking for your pet is a process that’s demanding on your time, labor, space, and finances,” says Dr. Larsen.
Home cooking is not for everyone, though, and it doesn’t have to be. Another option to provide your dog with whole ingredients is to get carefully prepared ready-made meals.
“There are commercial foods that can be purchased that contain whole ingredients that are pre-cooked. Which is very close to cooking,” notes Dr. Bartges.
So, while you might think that cooking for your dog is better for their health, it can be just as beneficial to purchase pre-prepared food that’s made with the same principles in mind. Whichever method you choose, just to make sure you are always catering to your dog’s individual health and nutrition needs.
