How To Reach It

You can see the moves here:

Why play the Yugoslav Attack

The Yugoslav Attack is the most important line of the Dragon variation of the Sicilian Defense.

The main idea is to push h4-h5 to be able to attack the g6 pawn.

This can ultimately open up the kingside and make way for the rook on h1.

White generally will castle queenside to put more pressure on the semi-open d file with the queen and rook as seen in the image above.

White's Moves

Play f3

The point of White's last move is to protect the e4 pawn and to stop Black from playing. Ng4 and trading for White's dark-squared bishop.

Qd2 - 0-0-0

White generally castles Queenside to put more pressure on the semi-open d file with the queen and rook and protect his King.

Black's moves

Castle Kingside to Protect the King

Black should castle Kingside to protect his King.

Pressure the Queenside

Putting the rook on c8 pressures the queenside and also preparing a discovered attack on White's bishop.

The 3 Best Sicilian Pizza Slices In NYC

Look, I’m not thrilled to be near Times Square either, but the fact that I’m listing Upside Pizza means it’s worth the trek! The Sicilian has a gorgeous two-inch tall crust and a gorgeous sear on the bottom. Most importantly, though, is that this pizzeria is dripping into 90s nostalgia. The walls are just as neon as you remember and all of the posters feature only the best NYC athletes from the era (no Mets included for sad and obvious reasons). It’s a blast from the past and your parents aren’t there to tell you how much you can have, so eat away!

When you are born and raised in New York City, your opinions about pizza are automatically correct.

14 Fun Pool Floats to Nail Your Hot Vax Summer

Let’s be real: Did you really enjoy an envy-inducing day of lounging at the pool if you didn’t snap a photo of yourself doing exactly that on a giant pool float? A fun pool float is just as essential as the right pair of sandals and a flattering bathing suit. Don’t worry — if you haven’t had the chance to stock up on cool pool floats to pepper throughout the season, there’s still time to grab some good ones before Memorial Day weekend.

2. Classical Variation

The mainline of the Classical Variation begins: 1.e4c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Ne3 g6 6.Be2

While it’s true that the Yugoslav Attack is the crucial test of the Dragon, playing in such a flamboyant way doesn’t suit everyone’s tastes. For the more peacefully inclined, the Classical Variation is an ideal choice. White simply develops in a ‘classical’ manner and castles kingside.

6…Bg7 7.0-0 Nc6

Adding early pressure onto d4. Now White must be wary of tactics.

8.Be3

  1. a) 8.f4? (White neglects to deal with the threat) 8… Nxe4! (unleashing the power of the bishop) 9.Nxc6 (9.Nxe4 Nxd4 also wins a pawn) 9… Qb6 + 10.Kh1Nxc3 11.bxc3 bxc6 and Black has won a vital pawn.
  1. b) 8.Nb3 chooses at once to move the knight away from the crossfire in the center. After..0-0 White often continues with 9.Bg5, a line which was made popular by Karpovin the late 1970s.

8… 0-0 9 Nb3

Again removing the knight from the center, thus eliminating annoying tactics for Black. A semi-waiting move such as 9.Kh1 is met directly by the strategically desirable advance 9… d5 !. Following 10.exd5 Nxd5 11.Nxd5 Qxd5 12.Bf3 Qa5 13.Nxc6 bxc6 14.Bxc6 Rb8 Black is extremely active.

Beginning a kingside offensive with 9.f4 !? looks logical, but Black can exploit the weaknesses in White’s position with the dangerous 9… Qb6. The theory is rather complex but Black is more than holding his own.

NOTE: White should normally try to prevent the… d6-d5 advance.

A good square for the bishop, pointing menacingly at the queenside.

Typical position in the Classical Sicilian Dragon

Theory

The Classical Variation is much less theoretical than the Yugoslav Attack and players are more likely to be able to get away with just playing on general principles.

Statistics In The Classical Variation

Everything else dwarfs in comparison to the popularity of the Yugoslav Attack, but it’s safe to say that the Classical Variation comes a safe second. According to Mega Database 2020,The Classical Variation has been reached in over 12,000 games. Overall White scores around 33% wins, Black scores 28%, and the rest of games that ended in a draw is 39%

Vox Popoli

Monkeywerxus reaches similar conclusions to my own based on his observations of recent events:

Take a look at the amount of military in play in Washington DC for the inauguration. There are multiple parameters set up, ID & # 8217s being checked to enter and exit the city, miles of razor wire and fencing, not to mention some 25,000 troops on the ground - & # 8220for an inauguration. & # 8221 Doesn & # 8217t add up , does it?

Makes sense why Pelosi wants to make the event virtual and why Joe has canceled all of his rehearsals! Clearly, he doesn & # 8217t want people getting an advanced look at his security detail and I imagine he isn & # 8217t feeling warm and fuzzy about all of this. They certainly seem to be very nervous, but why should they be? They have this whole thing in the bag, right? Not so fast.

Folks, what we are about to witness is the greatest military event since D-Day and Normandy Beach in WW2. NOTHING can stop what is coming. No doubt, blood will be shed. Please pray for our President, our Troops, confusion in the camp of the enemy, and for our Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

What I would expect over the next several days based on the above drop - an EBS from POTUS and then likely an internet and media blackout with a short-term lockdown for our safety.

For God and Country.

One final thing, do not get caught up in the hype of this whole Chinese invasion at our borders. It is disinfo. Trump and our military would be acting completely different if this were taking place and our military air traffic does not support this information.

The Chinese Invasion theory is so obviously ridiculous that I haven't even seen fit to mention it. It's actually dumber than the idea that Japan was going to invade the West Coast in 1941. First, China doesn't have the naval transport capability to invade Taiwan across the Formosa Strait, which is only 130km wide at its narrowest point, so it certainly doesn't have the ability to invade the continental USA across the entire Pacific Ocean.

Second, the 5GW that the Chinese have been waging against the United States as laid out in Unrestricted Warfare specifically precludes this sort of military action that plays to the enemy's natural advantages. It's entirely contrary to Chinese military theory it's only virtue would be that of complete and utter surprise due to the very high probability of complete failure combined with 100-percent casualties.

UPDATE: What a surprise! The rehearsal for the Biden inauguration on Wednesday was canceled again today. How on Earth did we know that was going to happen?

White Plays Be2

The Be2 mainline of the Sicilian Najdorf begins:

1.e4e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 exd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Ne3 a6 6.Be2

White develops classically and gives a clear indication that he will castle on the kingside.

The move 6… e6 would transpose into the Scheveningen

7.Nb3

7.Nf5 may be the first and most aggressive move that springs to mind, but this is hardly ever played. The reason being that it allows Black to strike immediately in the center with 7… d5 !, exploiting the vulnerable nature of the knight on f5.

Now 8.Nxd5 Nxd5 9.Qxd5 Qxd5 10.exd5 Bxf5 wins a piece, so White should continue 8.Bg5 d4 9.Bxf6 Qxf6 10.Nd5 Qd8. Superficially, White looks well placed, but Black’s advance in the center has given him space for his bishops and the knight on f5 will be forced back with… g7-g6.

7.Nf3 is playable but is seen much less often than 7 Nb3, perhaps because white players are reluctant to block their f2-pawn, which advances to f3 or f4 in many lines.

Black sensibly continues to develop his kingside and prepares to castle.

8.0-0 0-0 9.Be3

White has quite a few different plans here but I will concentrate on one of the most logical ones. Traditionally, this bishop move is the most common idea, although recently many grandmasters have been paying close attention to the semi-waiting move 9.Kh1 Other ideas for White include the aggressive pawn advance 9.f4.

A good place for the bishop, supporting the desired… d6-d5 advance and controlling the c4-square. Another way for Black to develop his bishop would be with… b7-b5 and… Bb7. Here, however, 9… b5 would be a little premature due to 10.Nd5! and if 10… Nxd5 ?, then 11.Qxd5 wins material! White also wins material after 10… Nxe4? 11.Bf3 f5 12.Nxe7 + Qxe7 13.Qd5 +.

TIP: Both players should be wary of Nc3-d5 ideas for White.

10.Qd2

More sensitive stuff. White prepares to add pressure along the halfopen d-file by placing a rook on d1.

10… Nbd7

It’s actually possible for Black to play the freeing advance 10… d5 !? now, but he prefers to develop fully before trying to carry out the advance. After 11.exd5 Nxd5 12.Nxd5 Qxd5 13.Qxd5 Bxd5 14.Rfd1 Bc6 15.Na5 White is better developed and keeps an edge.

11.a4

A good move, preventing Black from gaining space with… b7-b5.

11… Rc8 12.a5

Further restriction. This move prevents the knight from using the b6-square and prepares to meet… b7-b5 with capturing en passant, leaving an isolated and vulnerable a6-pawn.

12… Qc7

Vacating the d8-square, which may be used by the f8-rook.

13.Rfd1

Further pressure along the d-file. Here White uses the fl-rook to go to d1 as the a1-rook is already doing a job on the a-file and may even enter the game via a4.

Strategies In The Be2 Mainline

Play is certainly more positional than tactical in nature and it’s quite rare for either side to go for an all-out attack on the opponent’s king.

If we take a starting position to be after 8… 0-0, then it’s possible to say that both White and Black have a number of different ideas and piece deployments. However, one constant theme remains throughout: the fight for control over the d5-square. Whoever wins this battle is likely to be successful overall.

Theory

6.Be2 is the least theoretical line of the Najdorf and can be virtually played on general principles alone. It’s certainly more important to understand the various ideas associated with either side.

Statistics

According to Megadatabase 2020,6.Be2 is the third most popular response to the Najdorf Sicilian behind 6.Be3 and 6.Bg5. Given its strategic nature, 6.Be2 appeals more to quiet and positional players.

I found 13,000 games in the database of which white scores 29% wins while black scores 25%.

3 recipes with delicious pumpkin

Pumpkin is excellent if eaten raw or in various appetizers or desserts. Low in fat and very low in calories, pumpkins are an excellent source of vitamins. Here they are disguised in three recipes with the aroma of late autumn and the scent of medieval holidays. I offer you three unique recipes with pumpkin, which lacto-vegetarians can also try.

Pumpkin pasta

Image from Pixabay

Here that pumpkin is not only prepared in the traditional pie. It turns out delicious and in combination with pasta and cheese.

Ingredients for 4 servings: 2 cloves garlic, crushed, 4 tablespoons olive oil, 4 slices of mozzarella (150 g), 2 tablespoons butter (50 g), 6 sage leaves, 1 lemon, 1/2 kg pumpkin, 1 packet of pasta (penne , fusilli, or any other pasta you want, of your choice), 4 tablespoons grated Parmesan, salt and pepper.

How to prepare pumpkin pasta:

  • Heat the garlic in a saucepan with a tablespoon of oil, then set aside to cool. Then put it in a blender with Mozzarella, a tablespoon of butter, 2 sage leaves, grated peel and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper and mix until a homogeneous paste.
  • Preheat the oven to 5th gear (200 degrees Celsius). Pour the rest of the oil into a pan and put it in the oven for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, clean the pumpkin, remove the seeds and cut the pulp into cubes. Put the pumpkin in hot oil and season with salt and pepper. Bake the pumpkin for 30 minutes, turning it on all sides.
  • Boil the pasta according to the instructions on the package. Melt the rest of the butter in another pan, drain the pasta and put them over the butter over low heat. Add the pumpkin and Parmesan cheese, stirring gently. We put the mixture with Mozzarella over all the ingredients. Leave it on the fire for another two minutes. Place the pasta on a plate and decorate with a sage leaf.

FEN for Sicilian Najdorf

rnbqkb1r / 1p2pppp / p2p1n2 / 8 / 3NP3 / 2N5 / PPP2PPP / R1BQKB1R w KQkq & # 8211 0 1

The Najdorf comes from this very interesting prophylaxis move 5 & # 8230a6. In many lines of the Sicilian, b5 becomes a tense square for black to gain control of because there are three white pieces eyeing it up early on: Both knights and the bishop on c1.

It may seem strange, and go against opening principles, by playing a wing pawn move so early, but it has given white some trouble for years and is still one of the strongest ways to play the Sicilian for black.

I won a crusade as the King of Sicily and now I have a ton of gold and prestige. I see I have the option to empower the Sicilian parliament. In return for $ 1500 and 3000 Prestige I can get the special parliament building, high crown authority, and the parliamentary bureaucracy in all Sicilian counties for 150 years (+ 10% developer, -5% building cost / time).

This seems * really * powerful. Has anyone used this before?

Also when it says all Sicilian counties I presume that includes ones I conquer and convert in the future?

  • Realm Capital gains a new building slot to construct the Parliament building

    • −5% Building Construction Time
    • −5% Building Construction Gold Cost
    • +10% Monthly Development

    Decisions - CK3 Wiki

If this is correct, I would say that this refers only to & quotde jure counties in the realm capital duchy. & Quot

The crown authority (looks like its) is added to the culture (or it looks that way), so that alone would apply outside the realm capital duchy if other counties are Sicilian.

So after making the decision it did NOT change my kingdom (which I see was a concern before the current patch) I am still king of Sicily which is what I need for the wily as a fox decision.

It looks like only your capital gets the monthly development bonus (+ 25%), and dejure part of the Kingdom of Sicily whether or not they have Sicilian culture) get the cost reduction

In my capital (Palermo) I see a bonus to development and reduced building costs / time
In my other counties in the duchy of Sicily I see NO bonus to development, but a reduction in building cost / time
In a vassal that has a county in the duchy of Sicily I see NO bonus to development, but a reduction in building cost / time
In Sicilian provinces outside of the duchy of Sicily I see NO bonus to development, but a reduction in building cost / time
In a vassal with Sicilian culture in Naples I see NO bonus to development, but a reduction in building cost / time
In a vassal with Sicilian culture in GabesI see NO bonus to development, and NO reduction in building cost / time

Not sure how powerful that really is if it only applies the development bonus to the capital. To make the 1500 gold back on the building costs one would need to spend 30k on buildings (30k * .05 = 1500). If it were buildings and holdings it would be a bit better, but 30k on buildings alone? That's 300 top level buildings, enough to fill 75 four slot counties.

Also, verify that YOU get the bonus when building in a vassals territory. Some of the building / holding cost modifiers don't seem to always apply when building outside of your own land, only when the owner does.

So more a & quotnice to have & quot than an & quotamazing & quot bonus, but still worth taking if you ever end up as a Sicilian ruler. Worse than any of the Universities, Holy Sites, or Mines, but better than most special forts, in terms of special buildings.

How Much Food Do We Really Need?

The good news is that most of us can lose weight if we limit ourselves to a daily diet of 1,500 calories. Okay, okay, but what does 1500 calories look like? We tell you, through a description of each table.

Breakfast: Start your day off with 300 to 350 calories. For example, a breakfast consisting of 1 cup of oatmeal covered with 1/4 cup of low-fat yogurt and 1/2 cup of berries, plus an amount of 350 ml of skim milk here has 349 calories.

Gustari: Snacks for the whole day should be between 250 and 375 calories, depending on how much you eat at main meals.

The morning snack consisting of a glass of carrots with 1/4 cup of hummus has 157 calories. For the afternoon, a snack that includes a small apple, 12 almonds and lemon water has 170 calories.

Lunch: Strive to have between 325 and 400 calories for lunch. A slice of whole wheat bread, toasted with 15 g of Cheddar cheese and 2 slices of tomatoes, plus a half cup of bean soup contains 362 calories.

A tuna sandwich (2 slices of wholemeal bread, 1/2 cup tuna salad, made with 2 teaspoons of mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes) - all for 327 calories.

Dinner: End the day with about 500 calories. For example, a tuna steak with Sicilian-style broccoli, 1/2 cup barley, plus a small serving of Tiramisu contains only 481 calories.

If you want to enjoy a glass of wine for dinner, drink it instead of dessert. A glass of wine has about 120 calories. But did you notice what is missing? Juices and soft drinks! Here's why: Studies show that sweet drinks don't give us the same feeling of satiety as solid food, so does it make sense to "spend" 150 calories on a drink?
